XarfahaThe alphabet

All 26 letters of the Somali alphabet, each said clearly with picture words. Including the sounds English doesn't have: c, x, q, dh and kh.

TiradaNumbers

From kow to toban: counting from one to ten in Somali words, with pictures to count.

CasharroLesson packs

9 packs of picture cards: animals, colors, family, greetings, body, food, home, clothes and the states of Somalia. About 150 words in all.

CiyaaroGames

Dhegayso (listen and tap), Isku aadi (match), Xaraf Raadi (find the letter), and Geelka Cunto Sii, where children feed a hungry camel.

XiddigoStars and stickers

Every right answer earns a star. Children spend their stars on 24 Somali stickers they can spin in 3D.

XayawaanoTap a card to hear it in Somali

This is how the lesson packs work: a picture, the word in Somali and English, and the word said out loud.

Magacay waa Geesi.Meet Geesi, the lion cub

Geesi means brave, and that's what he helps children be. He welcomes children in, says every word, cheers every right answer and never minds a mistake.

His friend the camel is always hungry. In Geelka Cunto Sii, children hear what the camel wants and drag the right food to him. Get it wrong and he pulls a face. Get it right and he munches happily (and sometimes burps).

DhaqankeennaFull of Somali life

From the aqal and the haan to the cave paintings of Laas Geel, children collect the things their grandparents grew up with. Tap one to hear its name.

WaalidiintaFor parents: safe by design

Somali voices

Every letter, word and cheer is spoken in Somali, so children hear it said right.

AD

No ads, ever

Nothing to tap away from the lesson. Nothing selling to your child.

No sign-up

Children just tap and play. Grown-ups add a profile for each child.

Nothing collected

Progress stays on your device. We don't track your child or collect their data.

Works offline

Once it has opened, Baro works without internet, even on the plane to Hargeisa or Muqdisho.

Any screen

Phone, tablet or computer. Nothing to download from an app store.

MacallimiintaFor teachers and dugsi

Homework children ask for. Baro follows the Somali alphabet you already teach, so children arrive at class having practised their letters and words.

It runs on classroom tablets and computers, with a profile for each child. Class and school licences are on the way.
